Strokes are the third leading cause of death in Canada (Statistics Canada 2011) and, as the saying goes, "time is brain"!
MB is the last province to have an acute stroke unit and this is about to change noting that construction of the unit will not begin until December 2019. According to a Shared Health's press release a dedicated stroke unit will allow for optimal stroke management by better coordination of health care providers. According to a recent CBC news story this project has been in the works for a number of years.
